Gotta love the uptempo '71 versions of Tennessee Jed and Jer is so in the pocket, with the boys weaving beautifully. Playin' is out of tune by the end, but damn: Phil is so good. Jer spits out fills even while singing the verses on Big Railroad. The rubbery take on Jack Straw is amazing. China Cat is good but this Rider is hotter than habanero soup. 3 is the magic number, cuz they're just ON. Beat it On Down the Line-3 first false-starts with 25, but 24 for the drummers, so it collapses and Jer calls a restart. Starts perfect with a whopping Bertha and mostly stays there. This starts a string of three awesome shows.įirst Set. What you get is a punchy, sweaty show the Dead showing off and plucking lone stars like they were Texas grapefruit. Jer plays it straight but tight for the new market. Worth once (this was at the Schollmaier Basketball Arena) - though they of course played next door in Dallas.
